Kitzbühel Skiing in December: Passes, Sectors and Trip Planning

The quick version

Kitzbühel skiing in December depends on your dates: KitzSki pass bands shift from 6 December, and which sectors and lifts run is a conditional operational question.

December is not a single ski season in Kitzbühel. KitzSki's own published bands split the month into Super Savers, Savers and Premium periods, so the same dates can sit in different price categories depending on when you book and travel. Treating December as one block is the most common planning mistake.

The bigger decision is terrain, not price. KitzSki's connected area links Hahnenkamm, Pengelstein, Kirchberg, Jochberg, Pass Thurn and Resterhöhe, while Kitzbüheler Horn, Bichlalm, Reith and Gaisberg sit outside that network. Which lifts are scheduled affects how much of the map you can use, so confirm operations before committing to a pass. For a broader overview of the resort, see the Kitzbühel Skiing Guide.

Start With the Date, Not the Resort

KitzSki publishes three pass bands for the 2026/27 winter. Super Savers applies until 5 December 2026 and again from 30 March 2027, Savers runs 6 to 19 December 2026 and 14 to 29 March 2027, and Premium covers 20 December 2026 to 13 March 2027. If your trip straddles a band boundary, the whole ticket is priced at the higher band.

For a December trip, that means the first week and the Christmas week are different products. Early December sits in the cheapest published band, while the run-up to Christmas and the holidays fall in the most expensive one. Build your dates around those KitzSki price bands instead of treating the whole month as one rate. Planners comparing resorts often weigh these early-December trade-offs against options like Mayrhofen skiing in December.

Which Pass to Buy for a December Trip

KitzSki's 2 to 14 day tickets are consecutive-day products. If you ski four days spread across a week with rest days between, the consecutive-day logic does not match a scattered schedule, so check whether a different ticket type fits better. The published adult prices for a six-day ticket range across the three bands, from around €351 in Super Savers to €423 in Premium, with youth and child rates lower in each band.

Both the red KitzSki Keycard and the wooden KitzSki Pure Card are personalised and cost €5.00 each, with 5 to 7 working days for postal delivery. If you order close to your travel date, that lead time matters more than the card cost. All practice lifts in the valley can be used free of charge without a pass. Compare the keycard options with the full Kitzbühel Ski Pass guide.

Reading the KitzSki Map in December

KitzSki's connected area runs from Hahnenkamm through Pengelstein and Kirchberg to Jochberg, Pass Thurn and Resterhöhe. The D9 3S cable car links the Hahnenkamm sector directly to Jochberg and Pass Thurn. In December, whether those links are running determines whether you can ski point-to-point or need to stay within one sector. Use the kitzbühel ski map to see how sectors connect.

The standalone areas sit outside that network. Kitzbüheler Horn is not connected to Hahnenkamm by pistes or lifts, Bichlalm has one slope and two ski routes, Reith has two free practice lifts and short slopes, and Gaisberg is a toboggan hill with a ski slope and touring route. Each standalone area is reached separately, so a December plan built around one sector may not reach the others.

Beginner and Mixed-Ability December Options

Free practice lifts in the valley are a real December option. They include A2 Mocking, A3 Rasmusleiten and A4 Ministreif next to the A1 Hahnenkammbahn, F1 Wagstätt in Jochberg, G1 Resterhöhe, H11 Bichlalm and E3/E4 Reith. These free practice lifts work without a ski pass, so a first-day group can test conditions before buying anything.

Kitzbüheler Horn is the compact option for mixed groups, with a Family Park and beginner slopes below the Alpenhaus. All areas are reachable with a maximum of two lift rides, which helps groups reunite for lunch. This is a separate area from the main KitzSki circuit, so plan it as its own day rather than a sector of the connected map.

December Access Basics

The A1 Hahnenkammbahn is less than a ten-minute walk from central Kitzbühel, and the H1 Hornbahn I is about a ten-minute walk or reachable via the free Ringbus. Parking at the Hahnenkammbahn is subject to a fee, while several sector car parks are free for lift users. Which access lift you start from shapes your day more than the resort centre does. For equipment, Kitzbühel Ski Hire shops are in town and at the base stations.

The Streifzug service runs with a valid ski pass between St. Johann in Tirol, Kitzbühel-Hahnenkamm and Westendorf; its published window is 29 November 2025 to 6 April 2026, 8:00 to 18:00. Check the dates against your own travel window before relying on it.

A Practical December Planning Sequence

Sponsored

Begin with your dates and map them against the three pass bands. If you can shift travel by a few days, moving from Premium into Savers changes the ticket category for the whole trip. Then decide which sector you will ski from, since the access lift and car park determine your morning.

Before booking, confirm which lifts and sectors are scheduled for your specific dates, whether the D9 3S link is planned to run, and whether your pass covers the areas you intend to ski. The 233 kilometres of piste and 58 ski lifts are the KitzSki totals for the whole ski area, not a promise that every one will be open in December. KitzSki publishes current lift status and operating times for each sector.

Plan Around Your Dates, Then Confirm Operations

December in Kitzbühel rewards planning around dates more than around the resort name. The pass bands change on 6 and 20 December 2026, the consecutive-day ticket structure may not fit a scattered schedule, and the terrain you can reach depends on which sectors and links are running. Start with the calendar, then choose your sector and pass together.

Use the free valley practice lifts for a first session, keep the standalone Horn, Bichlalm, Reith and Gaisberg areas as separate day plans, and treat the connected sectors as a network that needs open links to function end to end. Check current operating status and pass definitions on the KitzSki website before you book, because scheduled winter operation is conditional rather than guaranteed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is early December too early to ski in Kitzbühel?

Early December falls in the Super Savers band, which makes it the cheapest published period, but it is also when scheduled operations are most likely to be partial. The connected sectors and standalone areas open on different schedules, so check which lifts are planned for your exact dates. Free valley practice lifts are a useful fallback if the higher terrain is not yet running.

How much is a Kitzbühel ski pass in December?

Kitzbühel pass prices depend on which published band your dates fall into. Early December sits in the Super Savers band, the run-up to Christmas sits in Savers, and the Christmas week sits in Premium. KitzSki publishes the current adult, youth and child rates for two to fourteen day tickets; check the current details.

What is the best way to plan a December trip to Kitzbühel?

Map your dates against the three KitzSki pass bands first, then choose a sector and access lift. Decide whether you want the connected Hahnenkamm to Resterhöhe network or a standalone area like Kitzbüheler Horn or Reith. Confirm which lifts are scheduled for your dates, whether the D9 3S link is running, and whether your pass covers the areas you intend to ski.

Can beginners ski in Kitzbühel in December?

Free practice lifts in the valley give beginners a no-pass starting option, and Kitzbüheler Horn offers a compact layout with a Family Park and beginner slopes. Reith has two free practice lifts and short slopes suited to families and children. These areas are standalone rather than part of the connected KitzSki circuit, so plan each as its own session.
